The host of the Wessel & Vett Cup 2017 is the Marselisborg Yacht Club.
Marselisborg Yacht Club is situated in the beautiful Marselisborg Marina, close to the Marselisborg Palace, HM The Queen’s and the Prince Consort’s summer residence, and in walking distance to the Hotel Helnan Marselis.
The Marina is surrounded by parks, the beautiful Moesgaard beach and forest and the area is truly one of Aarhus recreational jewels. During the summertime, Marselisborg Marina buzzes with life – people strolling the quays enjoying life, an ice-cream, a cold beer or having a lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants in the Marina.
The Marselisborg Yacht Club was established in 1982 and is one of the youngest sailing clubs in Aarhus. Nevertheless, the club is very experienced in running international sailing events. In recent years the club hosted the 2012 “Yngling” European Championship, the 2011 X-35 World Championship and the 2009 World Match Racing Tour (Danish Open).
The Dragon class has also been a frequent guest at the Marselisborg Yacht Club and the club has hosted many Dragon events, latest the Danish Championships in 2003 and again in 2006.
The club has a very active youth division sailing Optimist, Zoom8, Feva and “Yngling” and latest the club has purchased four Elliot 6m sports boats, used by the Danish National Sailing Team for practicing before the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition. The club now uses the boats in an ambitious recruitment program where the aim is to attract new club members from the University of Aarhus and other educational institutions.
The club is a member of Sailing Aarhus, a non profit sail event management organization formed by the 5 major yacht clubs in Aarhus. Sailing Aarhus is co-organiser of the Wessel & Vett Cup 2017.
